Benefits and Savings for Utilities & Facilities
Utilities
Utilities have the most gain from widespread installation of the Electrical Harmonizer-AVR. Through increased incentive funding and endorsement of the product, utilities have an excellent opportunity to leverage their contribution to energy conservation as an investment instead of a cost.
The benefits to utilities are:
- Reduced dependence on purchasing imported power during high cost, peak demand periods
- Increased capacity within existing generation and distribution infrastructure
- Efficiencies easily measured and verified
- Addresses the most inefficient part of the power grid
- Addresses the aggressive conservation targets set by Governments.
- Conservation that is sustainable
The Electrical Harmonizer-AVR also reduces reactive energy and demand (KVAhrs and KVAr) by 20-25%. In real terms of energy and demand supplied by the utility to the customer this is effectively reduced by 12-14%. This is the true performance of the Electrical Harmonizer-AVR as a sustainable conservation device when measuring environmental impacts.
Distribution Efficiency Initiative
A recent initiative in the American NW implemented voltage optimization strategies at the substation level. The study documented the cost, benefits and successful practices required to achieve energy efficiency improvements.
Using a conservative voltage optimization level of 2-3%, the results showed utility companies can save energy, reduce demand and reduce reactive power requirements by operating in the lower half of the acceptable voltage range (120-114 volts). The energy savings results are 1-3 % total energy reduction, 2-4 % reduction in kW demand, and a 4-10 % reduction in kvar demand.
When an Electrical Harmonizer-AVR is installed at a customer’s facility, it operates in tandem with the utility’s voltage optimization to maximize the customers’ energy and demand savings, while still maintaining utilization voltages within the facility.
Facilities
Any facility that is a large consumer of power, and is located closer to a substation has much to gain from the installation of one or more Electrical Harmonizer-AVRs. LPSI clients have clearly measurable contributions to energy conservation that position them as environmentally active organizations. In addition, the savings generated by the Electrical Harmonizer-AVR create an attractive payback period with continued future savings.
The benefits to facilities are:
- 7-12% reduction in electricity bills
- 8-12% reduction in peak demand (kW)
- 7-10% reduction in energy consumption (kWh)
- Reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions
- Extended life-cycles of machinery and equipment
- Reduction of direct and indirect facility maintenance costs
- Swappable under load with no downtime to facility
- Recognition as an energy efficient, globally aware organization
- Improved overall power quality issues
- Conservation with no lifestyle changes
The benefits above demonstrate why utilities like BC Hydro have approved the Electrical Harmonizer-AVR for increased incentive funding!
